Logistics Management For China’s Leading B2C Online Retailer

Background
JD.com, Inc. (JD) is a Chinese e-commerce company headquartered in Beijing. It is one of the two largest B2C online retailers in China by transaction volume and revenue. As of September 2017, the platform has 266.3 million active users.
Daojia, JD’s online-to-offline unit, provides consumers two-hour delivery of products from local supermarkets, convenience stores and other local businesses through its location-based app.

Challenges
Daojia now connects with more than 100,000 offline retail outlets in over 30 domestic cities in China, offering two-hour delivery to maximize their operation efficiency. This 2-hour delivery promise needs a fast responsive logistics network, in which the hardware support is of importance.

Solution
JD Daojia selected Chainway mobile computer to perform express data capturing duty in delivery. This Chainway device C6000 is equipped with a best-in-class barcode scanner, stable wireless communication and an autofocus camera. It captures data in multiple forms and updates it in Daojia’s central server.

Effects

  • It ensures on-time delivery, which increases sales and customers for the online platform, and adds a new revenue stream and new customers for the convenience stores.

  • Real-time transmission of accurate express data lets both customers and retailers know the status of their orders.

  • Using high technology and devices to innovate JD’s logistics process is an important step forward in building a sustainable O2O ecosystem.
