ENERGY | ASIA | UHF RFID RFID fixed asset inspection management of power company

Background

To effectively ensure the safety of power equipment and minimize the failure rate of the equipment. The power companies regularly conduct on-site inspections and maintenance of all power assets. Traditional manual inspection management methods are not only inefficient, but also prone to problems such as wrong inspections, missed inspections, and delayed inspections. To further strengthen the equipment management and improve inspection efficiency, many power companies have introduced RFID technology for power equipment inspection ,and chose to configure a more flexible and convenient power asset management solution based on the Chainway R5 wearable BT RFID reader application.

Challenges

1. The traditional daily inspection work mainly relied on manual inspection and physical recording of information. There were many uncertain human factors and the quality of inspection cannot be guaranteed.
2. It was impossible to ensure that the inspectors on duty arrived at the workplace and followed predetermined standards. Thus, management cannot supervise the work of inspectors efficiently.
3. The information related to the inspection work was not up to the mark, and the statistics and analysis of data required more workforce and time costs that further increased management cost.
4. The maintenance information could not be feedback in time, and it was not convenient for the management personnel to arrange the maintenance plan for the first time, which may cause the substation equipment to be in a fault state for a long time and cause losses.

Solution

In response to the above problems and fulfil customer needs, Chainway has recommended an intelligent power inspection solution based on the Chainway R5 wearable BT RFID reader application for the power company to realize the tag management of fixed assets. The solution adds RFID electronic tags to asset equipment to give each asset equipment a unique identifiable identification. In the subsequent asset inspection work, the staff can scan asset tags through R5 Bluetooth readers and mobile phones to quickly, accurately obtain asset information, and perform corresponding work operations. All field operation data is synchronized to the background data system in real-time through the wireless network, which significantly improves the operational efficiency and quality. At the same time, it also realizes the comprehensive visual management of assets.

Effects

1. On-site staff can collect asset equipment information at a longer distance, which highly improves the safety of operators.

2. R5 wearable design allows the operator to free their hands, which makes field operations more flexible and efficient.

3. Reduce the influence of human factors, and avoid the occurrence of problems such as missed inspections, wrong inspections, and inefficient inspections to the greatest extent.

4. It has realized that the inspectors form a closed-loop from work plan, execution, and completion confirmation, which effectively guarantees the inspection quality of inspectors and improves the safety and reliability of power equipment.

5. Managers can obtain real-time inspection information of assets and equipment through the background system, formulate maintenance service plans in time, and minimize the occurrence of failures.
