Parcel Sorting for DHL International Express Site in Dutch

Background

DHL is one of the world's largest logistics companies, now in over 220 countries and territories worldwide, particularly in sea and air mail. It provides customers with a full range of logistics solutions from documentation to supply chain management, and delivers goods fast, and securely around the world. Thanks to its powerful network, it combines air and ground transportation methods to achieve optimal delivery efficiency. In order to further enhance the delivery efficiency, DHL in Dutch decided to use handheld computers for the parcel sorting at the Dutch site.

Challenges

1. There are a large number of parcels at the site. The original manual sorting method takes a long time, resulting in low efficiency.
2. Handwritten courier information is inefficient and prone to errors. Besides, handwritten paper is easy to lose, which makes negative effects on information checking for express delivery.
3. It comes with low efficiency in collecting, input and output of the warehouse, sorting and other links, which cannot burden the logistics pressure from the peak hours.
4. The information of various links such as the sorting, storage, and delivery of the shipments is chaotic, which easily leads to problems such as loss of shipments and uncontrollable shipments.

Solution

DHL in Dutch introduced an information solution based on Chainway C66 industrial-grade handheld computer. This solution automizes receiving and dispatching, sorting and distribution of parcels at DHL stations through the application of integrated barcode identification technology. And the key information of each order from sorting, out of stock to distribution is recorded, and shared to the information management platform via wireless network. The manager can obtain information in real time through the back-end system. And logistics information can be also provided to users for information tracking. Workers use C66 handheld computer to scan the package barcode, and accurately and quickly perform package sorting, input and output of the warehouse, greatly improving working efficiency.

Effects

1. The intelligent sorting significantly enhances the operational efficiency of parcels.
2. It enables real-time tracking of parcel logistics information, standardizes business processes, and brings more convenience to management team.
3. It helps DHL easily cope with high-intensive data collection during peak hours of business, and greatly improves working efficiency and customer service.
4. It provides customers with the real-time logistics tracking information checking, which boosts customer satisfaction rate.
5. It establishes a more complete logistics and distribution network, which comprehensively improves the corporate image and service level.
