Power Assets Inspection Management of TAURON in Poland

Background

The TAURON Group provides more than 51 TWh of electricity to 5.6 million end-users each year. It is the largest electricity distributor and the second-largest energy producer in Poland. To further optimize the management of power-assets, improve the quality of asset inspection work, and to better ensure the standard operation of power-asset equipment. TAURON chose to configure Chainway C66 for the inspection and management of power-assets.

Challenges

  • Due to the high value of power-assets and wide geographical distribution, workers lead to a heavy workload by manually verifying items one by one. It results in high-labour costs. Besides, management finds it tough to locate the assets and experience dissimilarity between the records and the actual power-assets. Therefore, the assets are not used reasonably by the operation staff. Thus, it reduces the efficiency of power-assets.
  • Manual operation of cycle-counting cannot regulate the working behavior of the staff like random filling.
  • Operators cannot upload the assets information in the records directly for the first time. Thus, managers can't get the status of assets in time and make plans on time, affecting the optimal use of assets.

Solution

Chainway company configured Chainway C66 smart handheld terminal with the application of the power inspection software. This solution helps TAURON's management in quickly realizing the intelligent inspection and manage power assets. The solution uses barcode technology to capture the data of different substation equipment. Later, inspectors scan the barcode label of substation equipment with the help of the C66 handheld terminal. This solution quickly & accurately identifies the assets and transmit the captured data of assets in real-time with the operation terminal by using wireless communication technology. The on-site operation terminal is connected with the enterprise production management system. Thus, company management able to greatly improve the working efficiency and quality of inspection personnel.

Effects

1. The electronic asset equipment inspection work has realized informatization and standardized management, effectively reducing the occurrence of missed inspections and false inspections.
2. The solution ensures that the inspectors develop a closed loop with the work plan, execution, and completion confirmation. It helps company management to improve the work quality of the inspectors and ensures the safety & reliability of power equipment by eliminating the potential safety hazards.
3. While saving labour and time costs, work efficiency and management efficiency have been greatly improved.
4. Now, managers can obtain inspection information of assets and equipment in a more timely manner, formulate maintenance service plans faster, and minimize losses caused by equipment failures.
