Background:
The client is a logistics company engaged in bulk coal transportation in South Africa. To ensure standardized management of coal mining transport, reduce accidents, and eliminate transportation-related incidents, the client decided to introduce an RFID technology solution. They selected the deployment of Chainway C71 Built-in RFID readers for end-to-end monitoring and management of vehicle transportation.
Challenges:
1. The transportation process faced complexity, low digitization, significant human interference, and uncontrollable transportation costs.
2. Long transportation routes and complex vehicle paths made it challenging for managers to effectively control the vehicle routes.
3. In traditional modes, drivers were unable to monitor the entire journey, posing safety risks during transportation.
4. Challenges in ensuring cargo security and transit time; instances of cargo loss were prevalent with difficult responsibility tracing.
5. Information gaps between fleets, dispersed transport capacity, low transportation efficiency, and inconvenient vehicle scheduling.
Solution:
To address transportation safety issues and client requirements, Chainway and its partners customized an intelligent logistics transportation management solution based on the application of Chainway C71 Built-in RFID reader. The solution involved installing RFID tags on each transport vehicle, writing relevant information for vehicle identification. During key stages of the transportation process, Chainway C71 was configured to perform identity verification or information collection for vehicles, personnel, and cargo. The collected data was transmitted in real-time to the management system, achieving end-to-end visual management of transportation. For instance, during transportation, staff scanned the windshield tag and verified driver's license/ID using the Chainway C71, achieving rapid verification of vehicles and personnel. Additionally, by scanning preset tags on the vehicle body and checkpoint pillars, quick verification and release of vehicles were realized. Staff could also use Chainway C71 to take photos, recording the real-time sealing status of goods synchronized to the management system.
Effects:
1. Achieved supervision and management of the entire cargo transportation process, significantly improving transport efficiency, and reducing logistics costs.
2. Rapid verification and release of on-the-road vehicles were realized through C71 scans, improving vehicle release efficiency.
3. Effective management control of goods loading and unloading using seals on waterproof canvas and dump trucks, with timely tracing of exceptions to prevent cargo losses.
4. Real-time visibility of loading and delivery routes with time restrictions, enabling efficient vehicle scheduling.
5. Real-time control of each transportation trip's cost, efficiency, and cargo safety, significantly enhancing operational efficiency.
