Automobile Transport Management with Barcode and RFID

Background
Anji Automative Logistics Company (Anji) is the largest logistics company in China which delivers transport and logistics services to automobile industry. Its clients include China’s major automobile manufacturers, such as SAIC Volkswagen, SAIC-GM, and BYD.

Challenges

  • Anji offers a full range of services for the transport of furnished vehicles via road, rail or inland waterways. It requires responsive and efficient logistics network.

  • Virtually identifying vehicles of the same model and make costs time and may be prone to errors, thus leads to inaccurate inventory counting.

  • The demand to transport assets faster, better, and ultimately safer, is greater today than ever before.

Solution
A UHF RFID tag is mounted into the interior of the windshield of a finished vehicle. The vehicle identification number (VIN), description, make and model are written into the tag and stored in Anji’s host server database. Chainway C4050 handheld computer is used to identify each and every vehicle. New piece of information can also be written into tags via Chainway device.

Application
Before Shipping
Once a vehicle is manufactured and ready to be shipped, a RFID tag is mounted into the interior of the windshield. The vehicle identification number (VIN), description, make and model are written into the tag and stored in the company’s customer relationship management (CRM) system.

Inventory Management
CRM connects to the database under 4G or Wi-Fi wireless communication. In inventory tracking, workers do not need to physically do inventory counting any more, they can just wave Chainway C4050 handheld computer to read vehicles’ RFID tags to perform a quick accurate inventory management.

Real-time Data Update
At every step of logistics, new transport information can be written to the system and linked a vehicle’s VIN via Chainway handheld computer. Under 4G or Wi-Fi wireless communication, it transfers to the central database.

Effects

  • RFID tags and Chainway handheld computers allow completely automated wireless identification of vehicles without impacting on existing vehicle processes.

  • No matter where and however many vehicles need to go, Anji will ensure they reach their destination quickly and reliably, with Chainway handheld computer.

  • Real-time information about the location and status of one shipment can be accessed in the system.

  • It promises maximum reliability and safety, as well as an adequate logistics network.
