RFID Solution for Livestock Health Tracking

One of the major concerns in livestock management has been the health of the animals. This perturbs producers as well as customers as far as the safety of the food is concerned. The organizations are in dire need of modern technologies to keep a track and safeguard the whole process from farm to table. The livestock sector generates some 9.3€ billion per year. With a vision to harmonize the whole process to modern technology and avenues, RFID technologies and RFID reads have been deployed to track the whole process.

Challenges
  • The government of Netherlands needed an Intelligent Livestock and a fairly sustainable monitoring System to track Livestock Farming. The entailed Intelligent Monitoring System is predestined to be rugged, compact and portable with extremely accurate RFID reading performance.

Solution
  • The recently delegated project, which includes RFID tag, RFID reader, local server and a backend database, has been facilitated with the inclusion of Chainway C4050 handheld RFID reader to perform the task of Livestock tracking. Every single cattle would be assigned an RFID ear tag which would give access to its unique ID number and with the help of which any animal on the database can be identified with definite certitude.

Effects
  • Farmers can document feeding pattern and health profile of the animal on Chainway handheld reader under the animal’s ID number. With the help of which proper medical treatment can be given to that animal.
  • It delivers effective disease control by identifying to a specific batch number which in turn reduces the severity of an outbreak and curtail its impact.
