Use of Barcode Technology for Ticket Inspection at Football Stadium

Background
Football is one of the favourite destinations in the United Kingdom. Visitors come from all over the world to enjoy famous football league matches, which is why stadiums have a capacity to occupy thousands of football spectators at a time. Ticket verification is the most crucial part of running a successful football game in these stadiums. Therefore, administration deploys a solution for quick entry of spectators with error-free ticket inspection.

Challenges
Stadium management had been practicing a manual ticket checking process for many years. This process took a long time to verify tickets at the entry gates and as a result spectator had to wait for a long in queues. Because of a simple paper ticket, there were more chances of circulating counterfeit tickets. People with fake tickets could easily enter the stadium and occupied the unauthorized expensive seats.

Solution
Management introduced a new system of the ticket, in which tickets with printed 2D barcode were issued. Each ticket had a unique identification number which could be scan with the help of Chainway mobile computer by a staff member at the entrance. These handheld devices were connected with the central database through stable wireless network. Scan data from ticket could be easily inspected with the database on real-time, by which ticket could be approved or disapproved the ticket for entry.

Effects
  • Risk of fraud ticket has reduced significantly and spectators feel more satisfaction with fast entry and seat allocation.
  • Now real-time data is available for the management, they can easily manage the crowd on the entrance. They have pre-stored data of spectators which could help them to identify the number of spectators present in the stadium at a time.
