Mobile Computer - A Solution to Enhance Warehouse Visibility

Background
Economic development in Thailand has increased the size of warehouses across the country. To give pace with the business expansions, timely distribution of goods and services, a high quality fast and accurate warehouse management solution is required. The current scenario of inventory management is not efficient to manage the increasing size of stocks; therefore, companies opt for an intelligent management solution.
 
 Challenges
  • The current manual system of inventory checks in and check out is time-consuming and often leads to errors and confusion.
  • All the records are registered on paper which further converts in hips of bundles. It is extremely difficult to search required information in case of an emergency situation.
  • Management cannot be 100% sure about the stock maintenance process. Many times, physical stock tacking records do not match with recorded stock. As a result, the whole process of stock tacking has to be repeated many times.
 
Solution
The new method of stock tacking is known as barcode scanning technology. The company deployed Chainway mobile computer for implemented this technology. This mobile computer comes with industrial grade 2D barcode scanner. Barcode label coded with unique information about respected items is pasted on the cartoons. Thereafter, these items can be easily sorted and real-time data update is possible in backend database.
 
Application implementation

Quick Put away
Each item arrives in the warehouse is labeled with a unique barcode which differentiates each item with others. Operator equipped with mobile computer scan these barcodes and updates the entry of items in the warehouse database. These barcode labels include all the information about the item such as name, quantity, category, production date, destination address etc. Operator easily allocates the respective shelf or area in the warehouse.

Efficient Stock-taking
Warehouse with a smart mobile computer has greatly enhanced the stock tacking process. These devices connect with central database through a wireless connection. Each item in the warehouse can be scanned and entered in the database on real-time bases. This process has saved lots of time involved in stock taking.
 
Intelligent Sorting
The warehouse has to store number new items received from another warehouse. Data entry for each item take lots of time, but with the help of a mobile computer, items can be easily sorted, store and dispatch accurately.
 
Information Inquiries
With the help of mobile computer, warehouse operator can easily find out a specific item in warehouse. The operator just needs to enter the code on the mobile computer which further displays the product location in the warehouse.
