How TNT Express Provide Better Services for Customers

Background
For the past 3 decades, TNT Express has earned a reputation of number one courier services provider in Pakistan. The company had grown all over the country with which demand for services was also increased. The traditional way of services became obsolete and could not proceed further. To meet the escalated demand and on-time delivery of the parcels, TNT took the help of Chainway Information Technology Company for providing latest technology solution. Chainway is a manufacturer of automatic identification data capturing devices. This is why TNT management chose Chainway’s C3000 mobile computer for tracking and inventory management. Finally, TNT Express achieved the goal of on-time parcel delivery without any error.

Challenges
  • Manual process adversely affected the working efficiency and operational cost.
  • At the peak season, timely delivery of parcels was not possible due to manual work.
  • There were no criteria to evaluate the performance and accountability of employees. They can easily transfer their in-capabilities on others shoulders.
  • Parcels tracking system was not active. Customers could not track their consignment even in the case of express delivery.

Solution
TNT management applied barcode-based solution for tracking and tracing of consignments. The system was implemented in every branch, collection centers and mother hubs of TNT in Pakistan. Data collected was forwarded to central servers on a real-time basis. Therefore, the management offered real-time tracking of the consignment for the customers.

Application Details 

Picking
A worker carries a mobile computer to scan the barcode pasted on the consignment in the warehouse. This process made the sorting and distribution function really fast and accurate. The mobile computer connected with the wireless network could collect and update the parcel information on the server. Customer, on the other hand, could be updated about the status of consignment and when it can be delivered.

Delivery
The courier carries Chainway C3000 handheld terminal to scan the 2D barcode on the parcel. Information was recorded automatically by the handheld and forwarded to the database via 3G network. It is fast and convenient.
Delivery boys were also equipped with Chainway’s mobile computers. With this, they could scan the barcode on the parcel as proof of delivery and update the backend system with the help of a wireless network.

Effects
  • Data can be fetched and restore very easily with a mobile computer. As a result, customer satisfaction has improved with fast delivery of the consignment.
  • The company manages to offer live tracking of consignment for the customers. It further improves the company image.
  • Operational efficiency of management also improved with automatic data update of picking and delivery of the consignment.
