Vehicle Tracking Solution for an Automobile Company

Background
An automobile company known as Dongfeng Motor Company Ltd. was established in Wuhan, China on 9 June 2003. The company has a 50:50 joint venture between Dongfeng Motor Corporation and Nissan Motors. Dongfeng Motor is specialized in manufacturing of heavy-duty commercial vehicles. Thus, to manage the production of these vehicles effectively, company management approached Chainway company.
 
Challenges
1 The transportation responsible for delivery of finished vehicles could manipulate the route and delivery location easily.
2. As inventory operation was manual so data cannot be produced in real-time.
3. The manual process usually cost in a delay of delivery to the distributors.
4. Stock-in and stock-out process take a long time and consume long working hours of workers. 

Solution
Chainway proposed an integrated solution with the combination the of RFID, GPS, wireless transmission and other functions. Now finished commercial vehicles which are being transported through logistics companies can be tracked during pickup, sending out and at the time of delivery. Company management can get the real-time status of the commercial vehicle.
 
Application Implementation

Faster Stock-in and Stock-out
The manual recording has been replaced with scanned base recording which makes it possible to obtain the accurate data of all the commercial vehicles from manufacturing to sales outlets.
 
Inventory Management
An operator appoints for inventory management carry Chainway handheld computer which helps in scanning the commercial vehicles parked in warehouses. Data stored in the server automatically match the data and update with inventory records. It ensures the stock is maintained consistently.
 
Real-time Monitoring
By locating the driver every 1 hour, the system can clearly record and track the driver's route of travel.
 
Data Upload
The mobile computer can be connected with the main database via a wireless network. The data captured through a mobile computer can be transferred in real-time with the backend database. It ensures the availability of data in real-time.
 
Effects
1 The application helps in timely tracking of the vehicles being transported all over the country.
2. Management process has become efficient and easy with automatic stock-in and stock-out of inventories.
3. The routes of all the carriers can be assigned and tracked by company management. The drivers have to follow the pre-assigned route strictly.
4. The system ensures the accurate delivery of the consignment because the driver needs to take feedback of distributer via mobile computer which is integrated with a GPS system.
