Laundry Management with RFID Solution

Background
Do you know, consumer preference for cloths has been changed in the past few years? Today, many customers prefer cloth rental services where the can hire expensive dresses for special occasions. This is very suitable for those people those cannot afford expensive garment and will to accept new fashion. Elis is one of the leading rental garments and hygiene company in Europe. However, the company has opened its outlets in 28 countries including Europe and Latin America. With the client base of approx. 400000 customers across the world, the company hired 45000 professionals to manage 440 production units and service centers. The company also provide workwear, towels, bedsheet, etc. to fulfil industry requirements. Altogether, Elis has to manage a big lot of cloths on a daily basis which was difficult to manage manually. This is why company implemented an RFID solution to manage inventory and washing process.

Challenges
1. The manual method of the sorting process is time-consuming. Elis had a bulk of linens that were difficult and time consuming to process with manual operation. Thus, it often results in high manpower, error-prone and low efficiency.
2. The everyday company had to bear losses due to lost of articles in sorting and washing process.
3. The washing process cannot be monitored effectively. Clothes entered in the washing process past through different stages which were needed to be the monitor as a different type of cloths required different washing method. In the absence of an automatic identification process, cloths often put in the wrong washing process which resulted in damage of garments.
4. It was not possible to track the cloth data in real-time. Management was dependent on inventory data which was manual and error-prone.

Solution
Once, Elis identify the technology which could solve their purposes, they selected Chainway’s C72 UHF mobile computer for their intelligent inventory management solution. Now it was easy to manage the inventory, an operator from laundry staff could use the C72 mobile computer to scan the UHF tags associated with particular cloths. The captured data can be used in any stage such as receiving, sorting, put away, washing, stock management or transportation of items. The data captured with mobile computers could be saved or updated in the backend server of the company. A wireless network helps the devices to transmit the data in real-time. Backend software classified and processed the data to prepare reports pertaining to different departments.

Effects
1. The new solution significantly reduced the manpower expenses and make the sorting process fast and efficient.
2. Linens count and cleaning time can be accurately identified and update in the application for further analysis. The application effectively predicts the washing process and service life of each piece. This data helps the management to the replacement of linens in advance.
3. C72 mobile computer is able to update the data in real-time. The dynamic data can be seen by the concerned department at any time.
