RFID Solution for an Automobile Company

Background
FAW come up with the first automobile manufacturing plant, built a brand like Honggi, Pentium and Jiefang in China market. Established in 1953 in Changchun city, today FAW is the most powerful automobile company in the Chinese automobile industry. So, instead of dealing in one segment, the company offers a bunch of products and services such as R&D, Production, sales, logistics, financial services, auto insurance, etc. However, the core focus of the FAW group is the production and sales of passenger cars such as Volkswagen, Audi, Toyota and Mazda under the joint venture with international car manufacturing companies. With the result, the company had to manage more inventories and identify the requirement of a warehouse management solution.

Challenges
FAW was struggling with the warehouse management problem due to a large scale of operation. Less control over the inventory usually results in an inappropriate supply of parts that delay the production process. The manual process often responsible for manipulation which increases the operational cost for the company.

Solution
FAW group corporation finally decided to implemented RFID based warehouse management, for which they selected Chainway’s C72 UHF mobile computer. The device was deployed to facilitate intelligent stock management for spare parts required in the production line. Items tagged with RFID cards carry all the information about the products and it can be easily scanned with the C72 mobile computer. Instead of manually record all the entry and exit of spare parts in the warehouse, the operator uses these devices to capture the data and update its main database in real-time.

Effects
1. The company achieves high productivity and great customer satisfaction with the new solution. RFID technology make it simple for the operators to capture the data in bulk without any error.
2. As the whole inventory management is automatic, the error and manipulation have reduced significantly. The solution saves a good amount of operational cost by accomplished 100% accuracy.
