RFID Solution for Factory Management

Background
A great production process could not be stagnant on the technology part, especially when it comes to the mining industry. Continuous growth in the infrastructure sector has also increased the consumption of raw material, vehicles, and the personnel.  To keep pace with the industry, mining companies need to continuously improve their processes in vehicle management, inventory management, loading-unloading. Thus, RFID is emerging as a promising technology to enhance intelligent monitoring, inventory management and streamline the factory process so that the company can improve the supplies and increase the portfolio of satisfied customers. Here is the case study of one of the mining company which implemented an RFID technology for factory management.

Challenges
1.  The company’s management was facing challenges in the raw material to enter the factory. Most frequent was inaccurate weight management which causes significant losses to the company.
2. The manual process was time-consuming and insufficient to control mismanagement and counterfeited material.
3. Handwritten inventory data usually did not match with the actual material and its location. Thus, it takes so long to search for a particular lot of items in the warehouse.
4. Inconsistency prevails in vehicle registration. Due to the manual process, personnel data did not match with vehicle detail.

Solution
In search of a suitable technology solution, the company decided to implement an RFID based solution for factory management. The company analyzed and implemented the Chainway C70 Mobile computer with RFID module. Management uses an RFID card to track the vehicle. These cards were registered with the vehicle and assigned a unique ID for individual vehicles. The basic detail of the vehicle is stored in the company’s database for further process. When the vehicle entered the company’s premises, an operator with C70 mobile computer scans the vehicle card that shows the complete information of vehicles such as vehicle number, driver details, vehicle weight etc. This process helped in identify the accurate weight of raw material because vehicle weight is pre-loaded in the database. The data captured via the mobile terminal was shared and stored in real-time in central database.

Effects
1. Company increases the operational efficiency with automatic vehicle data capturing at the time of entry and exit.
2. All the data and past records are well maintained. There is no threat of loss or misuse of data.
3. Chances of any fraud are almost nil now because mobile computers capture and manage all the data automatically.
4. Now management has complete control over the factory management as all the information is available in real-time.
