Power Equipment Management with RFID Technology

Background
An increase in electricity consumption and continuous growth power industry has developed new power plants in Shaanxi province of China. To provide a proper and continuous supply of electricity, it was important to ensure the effective safety and inspection parameters. However, traditional inspection management was manual and recorded on the handwritten paper. Thus, subject to inaccurate, manipulation, wrong entry and time-consuming. Any loss due to these issues could bring huge losses to the company in terms of finance and inadequate supply to the consumers. Therefore, to facilitate a proper inspection of the assets, Shaanxi electric company has implemented a technical solution that ensured an automatic tracking and inspection of expensive equipment in distribution and within the power plant.

Challenges
1. The manual inspection process was failed to ensure the completion of inspection duty by the assigned person. The person could fill the inspection records irrespective of performing the assets inspection practically. Thus, creates a loophole.
2. The complete status of the assets records is not available as manual entry is limited to specific information only.
3. Real-time information on equipment status is not available to the top management which restricts them to take correct measures timely in respect of the replacement of assets.
4. Timely management of repair work could not be initiated. Thus, resulting in a sudden break down of the production process.

Solution
Considering the above mention issues and a detailed discussion with the management, Chainway designed and offer R6 UHF reader to resolve the issues. The device was integrated with the electricity application of the ZTC mobile phone to perform the inspection process. An operator could scan the RFID tag attached to the equipment and capture the tag data on a real-time basis. Updated data could be shared with the central database through wireless communication for further analysis.

Effects
1. RFID solution ensures the intelligent inspection and automatic flow of equipment information for concern departments.
2. Ensure that inspection personnel to form a closed loop for the work plan, execution, and completion confirmation, which can effectively ensure the inspection quality of the inspection personnel and improve the safety and reliability of the power equipment to eliminate potential safety hazards.
3. The solution has significantly reduced operational expenses and facilitate a smooth workflow for inspection.
4. Proper maintenance work plans can be executed to avoid sudden breakdowns and also increase the life of the equipment.
