UHF Solution for Tracking Trash Bins in Italy

Background

In urban areas, the task of cleaning is not only a social activity but it also indicates civilized civilization. Due to changes in people’s living conditions, the task of cleaning their surroundings has also become very complex. That is why in order to improve the health of people and to keep their environment clean, the Italian government decided to use RFID technology for its urban waste management service.

Challenges
  1. The task of running the cleaning services was very difficult as the urban area was large, apart from that it was also very difficult to ensure that all the workers are completing their work on scheduled time.
  2. There is a provision to dispose of different types of garbage in a different way, but due to the manual process, there were chances of many mistakes in this process.
  3. Monitoring the worker’s work was quite challenging as all the work related to transportation & coverage was recorded manually.
  4. Due to the non-functioning of an effective monitoring system, the waste was not picked up at the time, due to this, a lot of complaints were heard.

Solution

Chainway integrated its C71 UHF Handheld Terminal with IoT application for the purpose of implementing a proper garbage management system at the request of the Italian garbage management team. In this process, all the trash can in the city got attached to RFID tags, and during the storage, transportation, and disposal of garbage cans, the staff needs to read these cans with the help of a handheld terminal. All the information collected such as video recording, navigation, and trash can information is shared with the central server on a real-time basis.

Effects

1. From collection to dispose of, all the information is shared on a real-time basis.
2. Daily garbage monitoring has become very easy because with the help of handheld, all trash cans can be automatically listed and it further improves the supervision process.
3. By exchanging information functions such as identification, localization, tracking, monitoring, management, and scheduling become easier.
