Electric Power Tracking with UHF Sled Reader

Background
Due to continuous increase in the energy sector, it has become very difficult to continue the traditional method of inspection management. There are many types of flaws in this method such as not registering the records properly, incorrect inspection data, missing information and lack of transparency. Thus, there are more security issues for employees and financial loss to the company. To eliminate these problems, a power plant company decided to use new technology under which the effective inspection work could be done and it could be ensure that power equipment work properly.
 

Challenges
  1. The process of the employees' work was quite difficult and there were a lot of chances for mistakes in it, such as hard to ensure whether an employee available at pre-defined location or not.
  2. Due to all the data being entered manually, a limited information could be recorded. With the result an incomplete information was available on devices status.
  3. On site inquires and inspection of equipment on substations was not possible.
  4. The information that recoded in form is not easy for statistical inquiry, the feedback of repair work cannot be handled on time and it is not easy to manage staff schedules for overhaul plan, which may result in substation equipment in a failed state for long time and cause losses.
 
Solution
Analyzing the above mention problem and considering the requirements of power plant management, Chainway introduced its latest R6 UHF Sled reader and integrated it with ZTE mobile application to offer real-time inspection of equipment and employees. The R6 reader which was connected to the ZTE mobile was used to read the tags which were already deployed on different types of equipment and assets. In this way, all the information and location of these assets could be captured and shared with backend cloud server in real-time basis. All the field staff and production staff were linked through real-time communication and further enhanced operation capabilities by capturing real time data.
 

Effects
  1. With the help of application features like electronic information and intelligent inspection, the work of inspection started going smoothly and data mismanagement also reduces.
  2. In order to maintain the quality of inspection, each inspection employee had to follow a pre-defined pattern in their handheld which included work plan, execution and completion confirmation. It helps in ensuring the safety of power equipment and employees.
  3. Plant management also got a lot of help in reducing the operation cost with the help of new solution. Management significantly reduces labor and maintenance cost.
