Barcode Solution to Increase Warehouse Visibility

Background
This case study is about a power company struggling to maintain records of electronic meters. Thus, to improve efficiency, the company cooperated with Chainway which is a leading manufacturer of data capturing devices. Power company choose a C6000 mobile computer to deploy in warehouse management and realized real-time data capturing.
 
Challenges
1. Everyday warehouse in charge had to manually record data of all the incoming and outgoing electronic meters which was time-consuming and error-prone.
2. Inaccurate data affected the smooth operation. Most of the time items were not available in the warehouse while marked as available in records.
3. To get a particular item in the warehouse, warehouse staff had to physically search the location of that item which was a time-consuming task.
4. Management could not able to analyses the performance of employees in the absence of reliable data.

Solution
After consulted with Chainway corporation, the power company deployed the chainway’s c6000 mobile computer in the warehouses. The device helped the management to automatically record the smart meters’ inventory while incoming and outgoing processes. Barcode based C6000 mobile computer was integrated with warehouse management software which realized the simple sorting and recording of inventory items. The devices were capable to scan the barcode from medium to long-distance range. Warehouse management could obtain inventory information in real-time and ensure the availability of items in stocks all the time.
 
Effects
1. C6000 mobile computer saves a lot of time involved in the search for a specific item. It guides the operator the best route to reach the right item at the right self.
2. Timely replenishment of items is possible with a real-time data update. Management can make quick decisions in order to avoid the stock situation.
3. Medium and high range scanning capability of C6000 make it easier for workers to scan any item place on high-rise shelves. It also ensures the worker’s safety.
4. Workers must collect data on-site, which not only ensures the authenticity of the data but also makes sure that the work is completed reliably.
