Warehouse Management for a Vehicle Factory

Challenges
This case study is about a leading vehicle manufacturing company that was facing challenges in warehouse management. With the large scale of production and traditional warehouse management process, the company countered the issues like show operation in maintaining the stocks, insufficient availability of raw material, delays in delivery. This brought many losses to the company in terms of low customer loyalty, brand value, and monetary losses due to high warehouse maintenance costs. Thus, the company decided to implement an automatic solution that could eliminate all those inefficiencies.

Solution
To come over the above-mentioned issues, the company’s management implemented a UHF RFID based solution for spare parts management. Under this solution, a unique RFID tag was pasted for each type of spare parts that include all the information such as date of manufacturing, type of part, expiry date, etc. Whenever these parts were taken out or in from the shelf, C72 mobile UHF reader could read and update the status automatically in inventory management records, there was no need to manually record the status of items. The RFID reader was capable to transmit the data on a real-time basis via a wireless network.

Effects
  1. The new solution significantly increases the productivity and improve the material handling process.
  2. Now there are fewer chances of human errors because all the inventory management work is now transformed into an automatic data capturing process.
  3. The company also realized other benefits like a more satisfied customer, high competitiveness, fast supply of vehicles, etc.
