Mold Management for a Car Company

Background
This case study is about a car manufacturing company which has many manufacturing facilities across the cities. Due to its large manufacturing platform and spare parts inventory, it was difficult to manage stock efficiently. Finally, the Company decided to implement an RFID solution to improve inventory management.

Challenges
  1. Manual inventory management was time-consuming and error-prone.
  2. Due to a large number of parts and molds, there were high chances of errors in maintaining stocks.
  3. There was not real-time storage of inventory data. Handwritten records were easy to destroy or lost and it can not be stored for a long time.
Solution
The company decided to implement an RFID based solution for mold management. For which, management deployed the Chainway C72 UHF RFID handheld terminal in its facilities. Metal tags were used to store all the information on molds. Each mold was attached with a unique metal tag and this tag could be easily read by the C72 mobile computer. The operator just needed to wave the device in a mold store, thus it can capture the information of all the molds in bulk. In the meantime, capture data shared with the central database on a real-time basis. A wireless network in the device helps to transmit the data.

Effects
  1. With the C72 mobile computer, captured data store for a long time with high accuracy and efficiency. The new system saves a lot of time and costs in terms of saving on resources like manpower.
  2. It provides technical support for the efficient operation of enterprises and offers data support for internal parts scheduling of enterprises.
