Improve Customer Satisfaction for Carrefour in Morocco

Background
Carrefour is the leading retailer in the hypermarket segment. Established in 1953, Carrefour is the top retailer in Europe and the second-largest in the world. It manages more than 11000 retail stores across 30 countries. Earlier, stock management was a challenging task for the Carrefour. Therefore, Chainway helped Carrefour in Morocco with its C6000 mobile computer. The device intelligently managed the stocks in the warehouse and improved the overall efficiency.

Challenges
  • Carrefour stocked 80000 to 100000 different varieties of items in its stock and these were managed manually. So, there were more chances of human errors.
  • Due to heavy workload in inventory management, the Company deployed a large workforce to manage warehouses manually.
  • Management had limited access to the inventory information for analysis and available data was unreliable and outdated that could not be used for maintaining optimal stocks in stores.
  • Inefficient inventory management also impacted the marketing planning. Marketing activities depend upon the product demand and its sale patterns, but this data was not available to the top management promptly.
Solution
Considering the requirement of Carrefour, Chainway offered its C6000 mobile computer with a barcode scanning facility. The device was used in warehouses for stock management. Integrated with inventory management software, the C6000 device ensured efficient stock management and stored the data on a real-time basis. The C6000 device incorporated with a wireless network, which helped the management to transmit the information immediately after scanning the barcodes.

Effects
  • The new system proved to be very fast and accurate. The stock maintenance process is now reduced from several hours to 30 minutes and that too at high accuracy.
  • Automation in the receiving and delivery process significantly improves the distribution and timely delivery of goods to the stores.
  • Sales data is now available in real-time with concern authorities. Management can plan and adjust the sales strategies as per the sales status of chain stores.
  • After adopting RFID technology, the system automatically generates electronic orders, which reduces the inventory of goods, saves warehouse space, and increase the capital flow rate of Carrefour.
  • The new system offers the best operation efficiency as a limited workforce requires for inventory management.
