Warehouse Management for a Wine Company

Background
This case study is about a wine manufacturing company. The company manages a wide network of wine distribution across the country. To serve the customers more efficiently and increase product sales, the wine manufacturer company implemented the latest technology in warehouse management. Thus, company management cooperated with Chainway company for the procurement of the best data capturing devices.

Challenges
1 Wine is classified into a variety of products but managing the inventory of all the products in a manual process is time-consuming, inefficient, and error-prone.
2 Due to lack of anti-counterfeiting mechanism. It is difficult to distinguish the counterfeit product from original products.
3 Company managers cannot adjust the stock purchase plan due to inaccurate inventory data. It usually resulted in a shortage or overstocking of raw material.
4 It is tough to search for a specific item in stock as all the items are stored manually without predefine allotment.

Solution
Chainway suggested RFID based solution for inventory management. Thus, company management deploys C4050UHF mobile computers in warehouses. All the items like wine bottles and raw-materials are labeled with RFID tags. An operator equipped with a C4050 Mobile computer can easily capture the RFID tag data. Unlike barcode scanning, RFID can scan the tags from a long distance. Therefore, an operator can read and update the bulk data within few minutes. The data captured can be transmitted and updated in a central database in real-time.

Effects
1 The new solution realizes real-time inventory management for wine products. It reduces time consumption and increases stock accuracy.
2 RFID solution reduces the workload and improves the working efficiency of workers.
3 The cases of theft and counterfeit products are significantly eliminated which further reduces the financial losses incurred by the company.
4 Stock tracking is now more accurate and faster. The operator can easily identify the specific item location in warehouses.
5 Managers achieve comprehensive monitoring for all process of wines to ensure that all products are traceable, which effectively reduces the negative impact of counterfeit and counterfeit goods and promote sales.
