Background
Automobiles are a big sector in India that play a significant part in boosting the Indian economy. With the growth in the automobile market in India. The demand for motorcycles has also increased in past few years. This case study is about a leading Motorcycle manufacturer in India that operates through four larges warehouses in a different location. The company has a production capability of 6600 units of two-wheelers per day. Therefore, company management implemented a highly efficient inventory management solution.

Challenges
  1. The company is already using barcode solutions for the past two years for inventory management. But it is getting slower with the increase in inventory. Thus, it takes more time to do a particular task in a warehouse.
  2. The automobile company is facing challenges in managing the operational cost. Due to slow speed and inefficiency in inventory management operation, the company has to bear high expenses.

Solution
After conducting the pilot studies, The motorcycle company implemented Chainway C4050 mobile computers in warehouses. The purpose of deploying these Mobile computers is to manage the inventory of two-wheeler parts in the warehouses. The management integrates the C4050 Mobile computer with existing inventory management software with the help of the software development kit. As all the motorcycle parts come from different vendors. So, every item is attached with a barcode label. This label contains all the information about the individual spare part. An operator scans the spare part's barcodes by using Chainway mobile computer and uploads the data on the central backend server on a real-time basis. Whenever any part is taken out of stock, the handheld terminal immediately updates the inventory data.

Effects
  1. Management significantly reduces the operational cost in inventory management with the deployment of the intelligent mobile computer. The inventory process has become more simple, fast, and accurate because the Mobile computer provides efficient features like display, storage capability, high-speed operating system, and a powerful scan engine.
  2. The inventory data is visible in real-time at all the facilities. It helps the management to better forecast the parts required in the future.
