Baggage Management for China Eastern Airline

Background
With the rapid development of technologies, people expect the visibility of information. So as the passengers, expect airlines to provide real-time baggage tracking information. China Eastern Airlines adopted RFID technology to track baggage in the entire process. The solution doesn't only offer better customer services but also reduces baggage mishandling.
 
Challenges
1. There are so many different stages of the baggage handling process like sorting, loading, and delivery, which take a long time and often get wrong.
2. The manual identification method is prone to mishandling of baggage. Thus, it leads to passenger complaints and faces loss due to financial compensation.
3. It is difficult to track the real-time information of baggage check-in.
4. Passengers have to wait for too long to pick up their baggage, which leads to low customer satisfaction.
 
Solution
Eastern Airlines decided to use Chainway C72 UHF RFID reader for intelligent baggage tracking. When passengers check-in their baggage, the ground staff writes the luggage tag number, flight number, departure port, arrival port, landing time, and other information into the RFID tag. The airport staff can also read the luggage tags with the help of the C72 device to perform intelligent data collection during the receiving, sorting, and unloading. Meanwhile, operational staff uploads the collected data to the back-end database. It enables the system to offer real-time tracking of baggage information for further management. Besides, passengers can also quickly obtain the dynamic of baggage.

1. It automates the identification, recording, and comparison of baggage, which has significantly improved the work efficiency.
2. It records baggage transportation data timely and accurately. Therefore, the collection rate of baggage data and the accuracy of baggage tracking have improved significantly.
