Fixed Asset Inspection Management for Aluminum Corporation of China

Background

Aluminum Corporation of China (Chinalco) is a leading company in China’s non-ferrous industry, with a strong portfolio of assets among global competitors. It is also the biggest company in China’s aluminum industry that engages in the whole value chain. To further deep reform and establish a modern enterprise system, Chinalco decided to adopt new information technology to improve the asset inspection management process.

Challenges

1. Chinalco has many types and a large number of fixed assets, with wide distribution. While the traditional manual inspection method has low working efficiency, resulting in a heavy inspection workload.
2. There is no way to ensure that the inspection personnel arrive at the site and conduct inspections according to predetermined standards.
3. It lacks details on specific inspection standards and operation specifications for inspection assets, which affect the supervision and management of the inspection work.
4. The inspection information cannot be updated in time by the management. Thus, the management personnel cannot arrange the maintenance plan the first time, which may easily lead to the breakdown of assets and economic losses.

Solution

Chainway equipped Chinalco with C66 smart handheld terminal to effectively realize intelligent asset inspection management. The management affixed each substation asset with a unique identification electronic tag. Inspectors can use NFC-based handheld computers (C66) to quickly perform positioning, identification, and information collection work in the warehouse. Meanwhile, the operator transmitted the real-time data via wireless communication, which significantly improves the working efficiency and quality of inspectors’ work.

Effects

1. It realizes the informatization, intelligent asset inspection, and minimizes missed & wrong item identification.
2. The new solution can ensure a better inspection of the concerned person from the planning to completion of the task. It also offers the optimum utilization rate of power equipment, eliminating hidden safety hazards.
3. RFID system saves working time and the cost of labor invested in the operation. It further improves the operational efficiency of the enterprise.
4. It is easier for managers to quickly obtain asset data and timely scheduled maintenance service plans for assets to minimize the risks of breakdown.
5. The inspection data can be checked in real-time by the managers, which brings convenience to the asset management department and further promotes the optimal allocation of assets.
