Fixed Asset Project for China Southern Power Grid

Background

China Southern Power Grid constructs and operates power grids in five southern provinces, namely Guangdong, Guangxi, Yunnan, Guizhou, and Hainan, with a total service area spanning 1 million km² and serving more than 252 million people. The asset management method has now been unable to meet the needs of efficient management. Therefore, China Southern Power Grid decided to introduce UHF technology to achieve intelligent asset management and improve the efficiency & quality of the operation.

Challenges

1. With various types of assets and wide geographical distribution, the traditional inspection method relies on manual verification. It does not only burdens a large workload but also has difficulty in supervision.
2. It is hard to ensure that the on-duty personnel will arrive at the site and operate according to the given standards, avoiding unauthorized filling or improper inventory.
3. It lacks an on-site searching method with which staff can check detailed inspection standards and operation specifications for specific equipment at each substation.
4. The status of the asset inventory cannot be transmitted directly. Thus, managers cannot make timely plans and decisions, affecting the optimal use of assets.

Solution

China Southern Power Grid chose to configure a UHF-based asset management solution based on Chainway R6 UHF Sled reader. Users do not need to purchase a new UHF smart device but simply install R6 to the currently used device which can expand UHF function with lower investment and improvement costs. And users can slip the device into an R6 UHF sled reader to scan the electronic tags of the asset equipment at a long distance, to accurately and quickly obtain or enter information. Meanwhile, the data can be updated to the database management system in real-time through the network. Managers can monitor the flow of assets in real-time. And the specific functions include real-time device positioning, device movement tracking, breakdown alarms, and information reports, establishing a more efficient and standardized management mechanism.

Effects

1. It significantly saves time and labor costs and enhances the operational efficiency of enterprises.
2. It can guarantee the inspection quality of the inspection personnel from the work plan to completion confirmation, and ensures the safety and reliability of power equipment, eliminating hidden safety hazards.
3. It realizes the standardized and intelligent inspection of substation equipment to minimize the missed and wrong detection.
4. It is helpful for managers to quickly obtain the information of equipment to make maintenance service plans in time, minimizing the breakdown.
5. R6 RFID sled reader can be seamlessly paired with the existing devices without purchase new devices, which reduces the enterprise investment and achieves efficient management.
