Asset Management for Mexican Steel Plant

Background
With the continuous advancement in information technology, many enterprises have joined the pace of information development. The famous Mexican steel company is not an exception. To promote the development and standardize process of asset management, the steel plant decided to introduce UHF RFID technology to enable the visibility of assets.
 
Challenges
1. There are a variety of assets, bringing a heavy maintenance workload. And traditional manual management method consumes high labor costs and makes errors.
2. It cannot realize the visibility of the whole process such as asset purchase, stock-counting, maintenance, and depreciation. Without adequate data support, managers cannot make a reasonable plan in time.
3 The company does not set up reasonable & effective management mechanisms in the past, which leads to a low utilization rate of assets and serious wastes.
4. The breakdown of equipment often cannot be maintained in time, and it is difficult to find or claim responsibility for theft or loss, causing losses to the company.
5. It leads to inconsistencies between record-keeping and the actual status of materials, which increases unnecessary workload & makes the process complicated.
 
Solution
The steel plant is equipped with an RFID-based solution for asset management based on the Chainway C72 UHF handheld terminal. The solution integrates RFID technology to carry out tag management of fixed assets in the steel plant. RFID electronic tags are attached to the assets. Workers use C72 UHF RFID readers at the entrances and inside the plant. Thus, the comprehensive visibility of assets and the information updates are realized on the real-time data monitoring platform, such as the real-time positioning of the device, movement tracking records of the device, alarms, etc. In addition, equipment management statistics and report generation can be easily carried out, which helps the steel plant to establish an advanced and standardized mechanism for asset management.

1. With the application of the C72 handheld terminal, it can realize the automatic tracking for asset equipment of the entire life cycle, making asset management easier & efficient.
2. It automates the asset identification during procurement, the input of the warehouse, cycle-counting, and scrapping, which reduces the workload of asset management.
