RFID-based Baggage Tracking for Lufthansa

Background

With the rapid development of the airline industry, how to effectively manage a large number of baggage has become an important issue. Thus, the airline industry should steadily improve its ability to handle passenger luggage. Lufthansa, as the world's leading airline company, cooperated with Chainway to deploy URA8 fixed Android UHF reader, in order to achieve intelligent management of airport baggage.

Challenges

1. The number of passenger luggage rockets, bringing a high pressure on the existing baggage handling system.
2. It is impossible to implement intelligent real-time tracking management for the entire baggage handling process. When passengers' luggage is lost, it is difficult to track and find it.
3. The traditional barcode scanning method requires manual comparison, which is inefficient.
4. There is no efficient channel to collect baggage handling data for further analysis and management.

Solution

Lufthansa chose an intelligent baggage tracking solution based on Chainway URA8 fixed Android UHF reader. An RFID tag is attached to each luggage as the electronic identification mark, and URA8 is installed at the luggage monitoring point. When the luggage passes the monitoring point, the RFID reader can automatically read the RFID tag that is applied to the luggage. And the collected data is transmitted to the management system in real time for better dynamic management.

Effects

1. It significantly improves the efficiency of baggage handling, thereby promoting the efficiency of overall operations of the airport.
2. It enables intelligent baggage tracking, which not only allows faster luggage checking but also delivers enhanced customer satisfaction.
3. URA8 can not only perform reading at long distance but also enables bulk reading, greatly improving the efficiency and accuracy of baggage sorting.
4. It standardizes the baggage handling process, increases the information management level of the entire airport, and enhances the overall image of the airline.
