Retail Solution | Picking & Packing

Challenges posted by today’s onmi-channel retail environment (physical stores / ecommerce) need retailers to pick goods and fulfill orders with high accuracy and speed from every hub in the distribution network. The effort behind it can cost heavily in labor, consume much in time, and produce errors if the right solution isn’t available. Chainway mobile barcode readers ensure the correct items are scanned and packed.
 
In picking, items to fulfill a batch of orders are pulled from the aisles and brought to a central location; in packing, orders are individually packed at a central location like a packing table. During picking and packing process, each item is scanned twice: first while picking in the warehouse, and again while packing on the central packing location.
 
 
Picking
Workers are assigned orders electronically and are equipped with Chainway mobile barcode readers. They view their pick lists on Chainway devices, which may consist of a batch of orders. Chainway device’s GPS functionality guides workers on the shortest pick path. Starting from the first aisle, as workers pull the first item, they scan the item barcode and the slot barcode, thus the barcode reader will confirm if the right product is picked; if so, it will guide pickers to the next location. This process continues until they complete the entire pick list.
 
This rapid handling enables each picker can fulfill greater number of orders during their shift. When all items have been picked, they are brought to a central location for packing.
 
Packing
Like in picking, packers are assigned orders. They scan the packing slip barcode and Chainway mobile barcode reader displays items that need to be packed. When the correct product is chosen and scanned, Chainway device confirms the packing and suggests for the next item.
 
Once scanning and packing is complete, the order is ready for shipping. Real-time inventory changes are made automatically as Chainway device transmits data in real time under wireless connectivity. Retailers will have accurate visibility into physical inventory so that they will never miss a single customer.
