UHF Solution for Tracking Trash Bins in Italy

Background
 
Urban sanitation management is not only a complex social work, but also identifies a civilized city. With the improvement of people's living standards, the residential and living environment have become more sophisticated, in order to further improve the environmental health management in cities, Italy government decided to introduce RFID technology to manage urban trash.
 

Challenges
 
  • The urban sanitation management area is large and has heavy tasks. The monitoring of sanitation operation is not comprehensive, and it is impossible to ensure that workers can dispose of garbage in place as required.
  • There are various types of urban garbage, and different types of garbage disposal methods are different. It is easy to make mistakes by using manual identification and classification.
  • The garbage transportation and handling works cannot be recorded and monitored effectively. The actual work status cannot be bound with relevant stuff so that it is hard to monitor the process.
  • Due to the lack of effective monitoring system, there are often not timely garbage emptied, but the situation complaint.
  • The garbage bin itself cannot be effectively tracked and managed in time, and damage or theft is often not maintained in time.
 
Solution
 

Depends on requirements of Italian city trash management, Chainway has integrated with RFID technology, IoT application and intelligent terminals to design C71 UHF smart handheld terminal for managing trash. Firstly, to mark all trash cans in the city by attaching RFID tags and during the process of transportation, storage and disposal, staffs will identify and collect all information of trash cans, upload real-time data to management system to realize various functions such as trash cans identification, data reading, video recording and navigation etc. To provide reliable and credible data and decision support for the whole process of collection, transportation, disposal and utilization.
 
Effects
 
  • Trash can transporting vehicle staffs could implement intelligent operation by weight calculation, real-time data uploading and data comparison.
  • The handheld terminal automatically counts the trash can removal on time to realize informatization, strengthen the supervision of the daily garbage removal work.
  • By exchanging information, the trash removal time duration, frequency will be transmitted to data management platform and dispatching center will implement 24-hour city trash removal functions such as identification, localization, tracking, monitoring, management and scheduling to realize efficient management.
  • By management platform, management center can check the daily garbage removal status in real time, to make adjustments according to the clearing and transportation information so that the quality and service level of urban sanitation management has been greatly improved, and reduce complaints.
