Meter reading management of water companies with Chainway C61 mobile computer

Background
 
As a water supply organization in a specific area, a water management company is responsible for the daily supply of potable water for the number of residents. Thus, to facilitating the regular supply of water, improving the meter reading & maintenance management, and ensuring higher management efficiency.  The water management company deployed Chainway C61 Mobile Computer for meter reading management and realized an intelligent real-time information system for meter reading work.
 
Challenges
 
1. The traditional manual meter reading method is inefficient, labor cost is high and error-prone, and manual copying is difficult to identify;
2. Manual meter reading is difficult to avoid the existence of problems such as estimating copying, wrong copying, missed copy. Besides this, supervision is also hard to execute.
3. It is inconvenient to query user’s historical data, and managers cannot accurately obtain the actual water consumption status of each area, and cannot adjust management strategies according to the actual conditions;
4. The traditional meter reading method requires manual entry of meter reading data in computer, which takes a long time and has a high error rate.
5. When a water supply problem is detected, it is not possible to give feedback for the first time, which makes it difficult for managers to formulate maintenance plans in time.
 
Solution
 
In response to customer needs, Chainway has configured a C61 industrial-grade smart handheld terminal for efficient and convenient paperless meter reading and management. Before starting a routine work of meter reading, an operator uploads the data of the water meters from the database computer into a smart terminal via a wireless network. Once the operator arrives at the meter reading site, he can quickly obtain the data by scanning the bar code of the meter with the help of a smart terminal. Then, the operator can enter the meter data with multiple input options such as via keys or touch screens. The captured data is transmitted to the management system in real-time via a wireless network. It is a convenient and easy way to avoids errors caused by human input. At the same time, it is easy for the meter-reading quality reviewer staff to review the meter-reading data and summarize the various work orders in real-time on a computer. This solution effectively improves the efficiency of meter-reading and billing.
 
Effects
 
1. The new system changes the traditional way of meter reading, effectively manage the manpower and reduce the cost of meter reading.
2. Completely eradicate the phenomenon of estimating, missing, wrong and "favorable" in manual meter reading, and improve the accuracy of meter reading data.
3. The meter reading data can be uploaded in real-time through the network, and the real-time data is fully guaranteed.
4. It is convenient to view long-term and large amounts of real water consumption data of users, which is convenient for historical traceability.
5. When the meter is damaged, the pipe network leaks, the water supply is abnormal, etc. The issue can be registered immediately to stop the loss in time.
6. The manager can keep abreast of the water usage in each area to arrange the production and ensure water supply.
