Power Pole and Tower Inspection in Inner Mongolia

Background
 
Because of external construction, illegal construction and occupation, transmission lines and infrastructure are threatened to be ruined at all times. Statistics show that more than 90% of transmission failures are caused by external forces, and it comes with a process from the occurrence of hidden dangers to accidents, so it is necessary to maintain the serviceability of transmission pole and tower. At present, it is a key measure for communication companies to arrange inspectors to conduct line inspections, bringing effective prevention and loss control.
 
Challenges
 
1. The power towers and poles are large in quantity, and widely distributed, which leads to heavy inspection workload and low efficiency.
2. It is impossible to supervise the inspectors, so as to ensure that the inspections are in place, and guarantee the accuracy of the inspection data.
3. The inspection data cannot be reported in time that requires manual data entry to the computer system, which is complicated and prone to errors.
4. It is not easy to save and check the historical data of the inspection, and the manager cannot perform efficient power data analysis and management.
 
Solution
 
Based on C72 RFID reader, the intelligent monitoring and inspection of transmission lines is realized, including full inspection by step and key inspections. During the walking tour, line inspectors are required to use the inspection device C72 and walk along the lines to inspect the entire transmission lines and the corresponding inspection area. There are about dozens of designated points (key inspection points) on each inspection section. During normal inspection, the GPS inspection device collects one information point every 30 seconds and automatically records the walking track of the inspector. Besides, the inspector can read the tag or bind the tower by the RFID function of C72 to confirm the status of the inspection point. It can comprehensively understand the changes of the line, timely find and solve problems, improving the quality of maintenance. The key inspection is to inspect special areas, such as villages, industrial and mining areas, and areas that are easily washed away by floods in the rainy season, and so on. And it will perform 3 to 5 times inspection per month, or one time per week. And the inspector completes the inspection within a specified period of time, and reaches the designated inspection road section and each designated point by step or car.
 
Effects
 
1. Inspection plans and designated points of cities can be set up along the lines through the control center in Shijiazhuang, and inspection tasks are deployed to the local maintenance companies, which implements intelligent supervision of the entire line.
2. Real-time monitoring of inspectors in cities achieves centralized management.
3. With the deployment of C72, managers can easily check the data of the lines to obtain more accurate data of inspection resources.
4. The manager can obtain the inspection data the first time. When a problem occurs in a certain tower, it can be repaired immediately, which greatly shortens the downtime.
