Leading Supermarket Delivery Platform Improves Supply Chain Delivery Efficiency with RFID Technology

Background

The user is an offline retail platform driven by data and technology, committed to providing customers with a high-quality and convenient shopping experience. With changes in the market environment and increasing consumer demands for service excellence, the client plans to enhance the capabilities and efficiency of its supply chain. To provide more efficient services, they intend to introduce RFID technology to manage turnover boxes and pallets while ensuring the rapid flow of goods in the supply chain.

Challenges

  1. The client had been using QR codes for data identification and collection, which was inefficient.
  • Workers had to continuously print QR codes and manually attach them, leading to mistakes such as shipping the wrong items or missing items.
  1. Warehouse staff needed to quickly obtain information about goods in a limited workspace, performing tasks like sorting, packaging, checking, and shipping. This imposed higher requirements on their reading devices, requiring fast reading speeds and the ability to quickly obtain information about the items on the current pallet without affecting adjacent pallets' information collection.

Solution

In response to the user's requirements, we collaborated with our partners to jointly build a data collection system based on the Chainway C66 built-in UHF handheld terminal. This system utilizes RFID technology to manage turnover boxes and pallets, achieving intelligent management of goods in the supply chain.

The client's retail supermarket supply chain includes suppliers, warehouses, and stores. Pallets and turnover boxes, considered the client's recyclable assets, have RFID tags installed with relevant information. These assets circulate among the three entities. Workers at various points in the supply chain use the Chainway C66 built-in UHF RFID portable reader to collect information and upload it to the software platform.

Before loading goods, suppliers need to apply for pallets from the client and bind item information with the turnover boxes and pallets for continuous tracking in the supply chain. When receiving goods, the client's warehouse uses the C66 to read the RFID tags on pallets, quickly obtaining information on the quantity and category of goods. After storage, the corresponding goods are placed in the appropriate storage locations. During the shipping phase, the client uses C66 reading devices for sorting, packaging, checking, and shipping. Goods are finally shipped in batches to various stores. At the store, C66 RFID reading devices are used for quick receipt, simultaneously recording the store's receiving time and tracking the real-time transportation of goods and pallets/turnover boxes.

Effects
  1. With the outstanding reading performance and portability of Chainway C66, the user's data collection efficiency and accuracy have been significantly improved, making work more convenient.
  1. Leveraging RFID technology in operations reduced the tedious process of printing QR code labels, increasing worker efficiency by over 30%. It also enhanced worker satisfaction, effectively reducing economic losses due to manual errors.
  1. Asset equipment management through RFID reduced the loss of assets such as pallets and turnover boxes, increasing their utilization by over 10%.
  1. The application of the RFID system based on Chainway C66 enabled more precise and real-time information management, optimizing supply chain efficiency and reducing logistics costs for the retailer.
