Cherry Inventory and Traceability Management in Chile

Background
Chile is one of the world’s major cherry-producing and exporting markets. During peak harvest and packing seasons, large volumes of cherries move rapidly through filling, packaging, boxing, storage, and outbound logistics. Accurate quantity control and product traceability are therefore essential to keeping warehouse records aligned with actual production.

A cherry producer in Chile introduced an RFID-based tracking system to improve inventory visibility throughout its packing operation. The company selected the Chainway C61 UHF RFID Reader for mobile RFID reading and inventory verification, helping staff track packed cherry products as they move from the production line into storage and distribution.

Challenge
  • High-volume seasonal operations: Large quantities of cherry products must be processed and counted within short harvest and shipping windows.
  • Fast-moving packaging lines: Product information needs to remain associated with each punnet as it moves automatically through filling, wrapping, and boxing.
  • Inventory accuracy: Warehouse teams need reliable inbound and outbound counts to reduce discrepancies between physical stock and system records.
  • Traceability requirements: Product and batch information must remain identifiable throughout packing and warehouse operations.
  • Demanding RFID workloads: Staff need a rugged handheld reader capable of fast bulk RFID reading during frequent inventory checks.

Solution
The cherry producer integrated RFID into its packaging and inventory workflow. An RFID tag is embedded in the laminated paper inside each punnet. After filling, product information is written to the tag before the punnet is wrapped, boxed, and later read again for inventory verification and tracking.
  • Faster bulk inventory: The Chainway C61 UHF RFID Reader supports read rates of up to 1,300+ tags/s, helping staff verify large quantities of packed products efficiently.
  • Long-range identification: With a read range of up to 30+ meters, the C61 supports faster RFID checks across warehouse and logistics areas.
  • Reliable RFID performance: Based on Impinj E family reader ICs with Gen2X support, the C61 provides stable  identification for inventory verification and product tracking.
  • Connected inventory operations: 4G and Wi-Fi connectivity support real-time data transmission between the C61 and the management system, helping teams maintain up-to-date visibility into inventory quantities and product movements.
  • Built for intensive use: IP65 protection, 1.8-meter drop resistance, and a large removable battery support frequent warehouse operations during busy seasons.

Result
  • Faster inventory counting: Bulk RFID reading helps teams verify large quantities of packed cherries more efficiently during peak seasons.
  • More accurate inventory records: RFID identification improves consistency between physical stock and system data.
  • Better inventory visibility: Connected data capture gives teams a clearer view of inventory quantities and product movements.
  • Stronger traceability: RFID keeps product and batch information linked to packed cherries through key warehouse and logistics stages.
  • More efficient seasonal operations: The C61 supports faster, more reliable inventory management during busy harvest and shipping periods.
