Mobile Computer Based Solution for Managing Coal Trucks

Background
State Development & Investment Corp. Ltd. is an investment holding company managed by the state. The company was established in 1995 and approved by the state council and deals in four infrastructure related sectors. The company generates more revenue from power and mining sectors. Thousands of trucks supply coal to the power plant every day. The company realized the proper tracking of these trucks at the entry, weight counter, and exit point. The manual process of doing this task is not feasible. Thus, the company implemented an automatic tracking solution.

Challenges
  1. The manual process of data recording slows down the movement of the trucks at entry points because it takes a long time for an operator to note down the trucks detail on paper.
  2. The data recorded on the paper is entered into the computer system manually which makes the process time-consuming and error-prone. SDIC has to bear losses due to this.
  3. Every truck weight is different some time coal weight mismatch with the truck and results in inaccurate coal weight.

Solution
SDIC contacted Chainway for the best solution for truck tracking. Thus, Chainway suggested an RFID solution with HF-based C5000 mobile computer. This solution contains HF cards which are assigned to every truck operator and carry a unique identity and other information about the truck. The truck authentication can be confirmed by this card at all the points such as entry, loading, weight zone, and exit point. An operator with C5000 can scan the truck’s card at points and update the cards information in a central database via a wireless network. C5000 mobile computer uses WiFi or 3G network for fast communicate of data.

Effects
  1. The trucks can move faster as data recording is done with a mobile computer with capture the truck information instantly.
  2. New solution ensures the smooth workflow because data is captured at all the checkpoints.
  3. Manipulation and error have reduced significantly. Now coal weight is entered automatically with the help of C5000 mobile computer.
  4. The company saves lots of hours by implementing automatic data capturing solution. Workers do not perform repetitive work of data entry.
