Gas Cylinder Management

Background
 
Shanghai Shenzhong Industrial Gas focuses on the production of industrial gas products, related equipment, and technical services. The company supplies various industrial gases in steel cylinder packaging. Gas cylinders contain flammable and explosive chemicals that are a potential threat to the safety of life & property. To further standardize the gas cylinders management, management efficiency, and good quality gas cylinders, the Shanghai Shenzhong adopted more effective methods to strengthen gas cylinders management and ensure the safety of gas cylinders.
 
Challenges
 
1. It needs more effort in identifying cylinders. With the result, management faces productivity loss and time-consuming operations.
2. It is difficult to decide which cylinders are due for scheduled maintenance and testing, which lead to safety risks.
3. It causes underutilization of cylinders due to the inefficient and inaccurate tracking methods in use today.
4. The present system doesn’t enable a fool-proof check for preventing the wrong gas that fills in the cylinder, which is a major safety issue.
5. The accounting procedure is time- consuming since workers have to upload the record of each customer manually after deliveries. This may also result in errors that are difficult to track.
 
Solution
 
Shanghai Shenzhong combined with its real application with the Chainway C72 UHF handheld computer for the information management of gas cylinders. Company management equips electronic tags with each gas cylinder that contains a globally unique identifiable electronic tag as its ID. The worker can read the gas cylinder tags with the C72 UHF handheld terminal to obtain information or enter information such as inspection records, which realizes the real –time data collection and recording during the processes such as receiving, verification, refilling and delivery. Moreover, the device can buz the alarm for abnormal and defected gas cylinders.

1. It automates the updates on the cylinder details like shipment, cylinder return into the system which eliminates any possible error.
2. Regular maintenance of cylinders improves efficiency and avoids unplanned maintenance which increases revenues by reducing the turnaround time.
3. It simplifies the process of the delivery process by saving time, reducing errors and enhances  customer satisfaction.
4. It contributes to decrease in lost cylinders or cylinders credited to the wrong account, and enables greater efficiency in inventory used and ordered.
